It would be easy to fill a day at Hunter Valley Zoo or Hunter Valley Gardens, each less than 20 minutes from Mount View Grange. The friendly zoo has Australian and exotic animals, including the latest addition of three lions. Hunter Valley Gardens provides 60 acres of display gardens to explore, each with different themes and styles.


Bellbird Public School and Mount View High School, are just minutes from the estate. There are also three primary schools and a high school in Cessnock. St Philip’s Christian College, an independent junior and senior school, is just outside Cessnock. TAFE NSW has a campus at Cessnock offering a range of qualifications.


There are a dozen wineries in the area surrounding Mount View Grange and more than ten times that number in the Hunter Valley as a whole. Each offers tours, tastings and cellar door sales, so you’ll be able to buy locally, just metres from where the wine was made. The Hunter Valley is famous for its Semillon and Shiraz wines, but also has a number of quality breweries and distilleries if you prefer something else to quench your thirst.


The Hunter Valley deserves its reputation as a foodies’ heaven. Locals are spoilt for choice when it comes to enjoying the expert cooking of local ingredients in beautiful surroundings. From the award-winning Muse restaurant to more relaxed cafés like Café Enzo, a favourite for weekend brunch, each venue has its own style but equally picturesque vistas.


The Brokenback Ranges, Werakata National Park and Watagan State Forest just a short drive away have walking, cycling and 4×4 driving tracks for you to explore and take in their rugged bushland, birdlife, vivid wildflowers and great views. There is horse riding for all levels at Hunter Valley Horse Riding in the beautiful Molly Morgan Range. For little ones, there are many good parks and playparks in the surrounding area, including Carmichael park which is within walking distance. There is also an aquatic centre at Kurri Kurri, 20 minutes drive away.


There are various sports clubs and facilities in Cessnock including soccer, basketball, bowling, several gyms, tennis courts, an athletics track and an outdoor pool. There are four exceptional golf courses in the area, Cessnock Golf Club being the newest and best value-for-money and less than 10 minutes drive away.
